"The Amazing Trail"
surround-sense movie experience
-Here’s
your chance to whisk your class back into Alaska's great history. The
Amazing Trail takes you back to 1925 and honors one of Alaska’s most
heroic moments in it’s past. The 1925 Serum Run saved many lives in
Nome, Alaska, due to the courage and bravery of a hand full of Alaskan
mushers. Ride along with us on this adventure through some of the most
remote areas in the Interior of the state. See what it takes to
challenge this trail and why dogs have become such an important part of
Alaska’s history. Zoom ahead to the Iditarod race. This race is in fact
the present day celebration of the 1925 Serum Run. Go behind the scenes
and get a real sense of what its all about. From start to finish you’ll
slide, glide and fly down the trail with nine of your best furry
friends, just you and them daring to challenge the elements.

Field
Trip
Packages:
The Historical Experience
&
The Nature
Experience
These
two packages offer the same activities, with only a difference in the
film the students will see. The Historical Experience includes the film,
“The Amazing Trail”, and students will see “Those Amazing
Bears” if the Nature Experience is chosen. Both packages include an
interactive Jeopardy-like game that quizzes students on Alaskan trivia,
and the interactive activities in the lobby. If your class comes for the
Historical Experience, they will spend a half an hour in a
special-effects film which covers the history of the Iditarod, and the
progression in to present day. If they are here for the Nature
Experience, they will spend a half an hour in a more nature and
facts-based, but still fun-loving film about the bears at McNeil River.
The interactive game is set up for the students in the theater to test
their knowledge of Alaska in an entertaining way. The rest of the field
trip will be spent in our interactive lobby, learning about fish, dog
sledding, and Alaska’s Geography.
+ Alaska Fun Facts
This is
a fun, interactive game that will have your class learning new
things about the state they live in. It is set up in the theater in a
“Jeopardy” style format. There are five different categories to choose
from and questions in those categories all worth different a different
amount of points. The students are put in groups and decide on an answer
to the question in teams. They are given an answer pad to buzz in with.
After the teams have made their decision, we will discuss the different
answers that were given and why they were chosen. After the discussion,
the correct answer is revealed and teams that were correct are given
those points. This game has twenty five questions, and your class will
have a blast while they learn something new!
& In The Lobby:
-Interactive Virtual
Experiences!
-
Iditarod Dog
Sled -
Here is a chance for you
and your students to grab on to the wooden rails of an authentic
tried and true Iditarod dog sled. This sled has traveled from
Anchorage to Nome. That’s over a thousand-mile trek! So if you have
ever wondered what it would be like to be pulled down a snow covered
trail by nine dogs with four paws, two eyes and a dog attitude
detector meter, known to most of us as a tail, just hop on.
- Hot Air Balloon Experience
- First you’ll learn the geographical location of Prince William
Sound on a map along with some of its extraordinary qualities. Then
hop into the balloon, pull the launch cord and away you go! The
basket is designed with a transparent floor which allows the
passenger to view Prince William Sound from about 500 feet above.
You’ll glide over the heads of moose, killer whales and calving
glaciers. This unique view is a must see event for every one in
Alaska.
- Salmon
Derby - Sit down and grab the
pole then count down, “3-2-1” and hang on. This is not for a person
who could be scared by a renegade snowflake or intimidated by the
splash of a demented jellyfish. This challenges you to test your
skills against the world renowned Alaskan King Salmon. It’s all you,
one-on-one against this 30-pound scraper. Not every one can bring
this guy in. Do you have what it takes?
